The Friends of Saint Barnabas Church

Introduction:

Legend has it that the original Church in Peasemore was founded by St. Paeda, the King of Middle Anglia, in the 7th Century. Peasemore (originally Praxemere in the 11th Century) has been a parish since 1105, early on in the reign of King Henry 1.

Unfortunately time and weather have no respect for old buildings and funding is continuously needed to keep the structure and grounds in good repair, and to ensure that they are preserved for future generations. Our Church forms the focal point of the village of Peasemore and if it was neglected, the beauty of the village would be seriously impaired.
The parish of Peasemore is small. It has a population of just over 300 people comprising some 130 households. The cost of maintaining and repairing the Church imposes a heavy burden on the resources of such a small parish and we, therefore, ask you to help us by becoming a Friend of St. Barnabas. Preservation of the Church structure and its surrounds is extremely important to all of us who live here.

Socially, as a Friend, we hope you will enjoy the Church Lantern Parade event just before Christmas and future garden parties.

Gift Aid Contribution from the Government:

Through a simple declaration by each friend, we can apply to HM Revenue and Customs for Gift Aid support and receive 25p from the Government for every £1 donated by Friends of St. Barnabas.

We have applied to be recognised as a charity for tax purposes, so all donations will benefit from Gift Aid so long as donors pay as least as much in Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in that tax year as we want to claim in Gift Aid. In addition, each Friend must complete and sign a Gift Aid Declaration that gives the Friends permission to claim it.

How to become a Friend:

Membership of the Friends is open to anyone who makes a minimum donation of £10.00 or more per year. Companies, Societies, or other groups may become Corporate Members for £20.00 per year. Annual subscriptions (preferably paid by Standing Order to save time and expense) will ensure your name continues to appear on the "List of the Friends of St. Barnabas' Church, Peasemore" which will be revised each year and also that you are kept informed of the Friends' activities.

If any business would like to support the Friends by promoting their business in our leaflets, please contact a member of the committee.

Our Information leaflets and Application forms are always available in the Church.

Please complete the Application form and one of the Gift Aid declarations (assuming this is appropriate to your circumstances) and send them to the Hon. Treasurer. If you are generous enough to set up a Standing Order to contribute regularly you will need to complete the "Multiple Declaration" for Gift Aid. If you are making a one off donation please complete the form marked "Single Donation".

If you would like any more information or any additional application forms please contact: Robert Hellyer, Paxmere House, Peasemore, RG20 7JH or telephone 01635 247174 or email robert.hellyer@gmail.com.
